Established in the year 1957, the department is a pioneer in disseminating scientific knowledge to the women of state in general and valley in particular. The department has produced great alumni of international repute and continues to be proud seat of learning as on date.

An appreciable number of students have made it to different reputed universities for PG programme in Chemistry like University of Kashmir, Jamia Millia Islamia, IUST, NIT Srinagar, BHU etc
