The Department of Zoology was established in the year 1960 as a premier centre for teaching and research in Animal Sciences. Presently the department is placed towards Northwest of the College. The Department has three laboratories with proper instrumentation, each of which can accommodate forty students at a time. The department of Zoology is one among the five departments in the college funded by DBT (Govt. of India) under the Star College Scheme. Under this scheme we have upgraded existing facilities and also established a new instrumentation lab. Besides these, the museum with specimens of 1340 invertebrates, 201chordates, skeletons and models, is the main attraction and serves as introduction to animal Kingdom. In addition we have established section of local entomo-fauna in the Zoological museum. The Department has a qualified faculty of eight teachers who, besides teaching, have also pursued research.
