Department of Journalism & Mass Communication is one of the youngest family members at Govt. College for Women, M.A. Road. In a short period of time, the department has been able to carve its own identity on campus.

The Department of Journalism & Mass Communication offers two courses viz., B.A. (Honors) in Journalism & Mass Communication (BJMC) & B.A. (Honors) Multi-Media and Mass Communication (BMMMC).

While the B.A. (Honors) in Journalism & Mass Communication is run under the aegis of Cluster University Srinagar, the BMMMC course is run under the University of Kashmir. Both courses follow Choice Based Credit System. The curriculum is focused on imparting technical skills in various areas of mass communication and mass media.

The department has a productive association with the journalism schools of the University of Kashmir, the Central University of Kashmir and the Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST). This relationship is quite vital since most of our students pursue their post-graduation in journalism in these institutes of repute. Similarly, we also have a cordial relationship with various media organisations.

Our alumni include accomplished journalists and media educators. Their achievements serve as inspiration for the current students. The department regularly organizes guest lecturers and workshops to hone the skills of students. Field trips are also an integral part of our course. The department has a young and dynamic faculty. Their concerted efforts at producing confident journalism graduates reflect in the positive feedback of the students.
